These perfect small-batch chocolate chip cookies deliver chewy centers, crispy edges, and melted chocolate in just 20 minutes. Made with simple pantry ingredients, this recipe yields exactly six cookies—ideal for quiet cravings without leftover dough.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with a hand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes (or vigorously with a wooden spoon for 3 minutes) until light, fluffy, and pale. Scrape down sides halfway through.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract; beat until just combined, about 30 seconds. Do not overmix.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture; stir with a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined (a few streaks of flour should remain).
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips gently until evenly distributed. For extra chocolate on top, press a few chips onto the dough balls before baking.
  7. Using a cookie scoop or two spoons, divide dough into 6 equal portions (about 2 tablespoons each). Roll into balls and place on prepared baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake on the middle rack for 9–11 minutes: 9 minutes for softer/chewier cookies, 11 minutes for slightly crisper edges. Edges should be golden brown; centers should look slightly underdone and puffy.
  9. Let cookies rest on the hot baking sheet for 5 minutes (do not move them too soon). Then transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature butter and egg. Do not overmix after adding flour. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes deepens flavor and improves texture. Press extra chocolate chips on top for bakery-style cookies. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving.
