These spooky and spicy deviled eggs are shaped like black widow spiders, making them a perfect, crowd-pleasing Halloween treat that is easy to make and delicious to eat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs
  • 4 oz full-fat cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 medium fresh jalapeños, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste
  • Red food coloring mixed with water or mayo, or pomegranate seeds
  • Black olives sliced into thin strips or toothpicks for legs

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a pot, cover with cold water by an inch, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer for 12 minutes, then transfer to an ice bath to cool completely. Peel and halve eggs lengthwise.
  2. Scoop out the yolks from the egg whites using a small spoon and place them in a medium bowl. Set the whites aside on a platter.
  3. Finely dice the jalapeños (remove seeds for less heat) and add them to the bowl with the yolks.
  4. Add cream cheese, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the yolks. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  5. Transfer the filling to a piping bag with a large star tip (or a ziplock bag with a corner cut off) and pipe a mound into each egg white.
  6. Slice black olives into thin strips for legs. Insert two strips or toothpicks into the side of each egg to form legs. Add a red dot on top using food coloring or pomegranate seeds.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature to prevent lumps. If the filling is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk or more mayo. If too runny, add more cream cheese or chill for 30 minutes. Assemble no more than 2 hours before serving to prevent soggy whites. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; do not freeze.
