Quick and easy 5-minute garlic honey shots that boost your immune system during cold season. Made with just two simple ingredients, this traditional remedy combines raw garlic’s allicin with honey’s antimicrobial properties for a surprisingly tolerable and effective cold-fighting concoction.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 medium garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • ½ cup raw honey
  • 12 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (optional)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely grated (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel 8-10 medium garlic cloves. Smash each clove with the flat side of a knife to remove skin easily and start activating allicin. Mince the garlic as finely as possible.
  2. Spread the minced garlic on a cutting board and let it sit for 10 minutes to allow allicin to fully develop.
  3. Transfer the minced garlic to a clean glass jar. Pour in ½ cup of raw honey. Stir thoroughly with a small spoon or chopstick until the garlic is evenly distributed.
  4. Close the jar tightly and let it sit at room temperature for at least 24 hours before using to allow flavors and medicinal properties to meld.
  5. After 24 hours, store the garlic honey in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to 3 months.
  6. When feeling a cold coming on or for daily immune support, take 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of the garlic honey. Can be eaten straight, stirred into warm water for tea, or added to yogurt.

Notes

Let minced garlic sit for 10 minutes before combining with honey to maximize allicin development. Use raw, unfiltered honey for best antimicrobial properties. Avoid pre-peeled garlic as it may have lost potency. If honey is crystallized, warm the jar in a bowl of warm water (not hot) before mixing. Do not microwave honey as it destroys beneficial enzymes. For kids, start with 5-6 cloves per ½ cup honey and add a drop of vanilla extract. Always consult a pediatrician for children under 2. If you see mold or fermentation bubbles, discard and make a fresh batch.
