A creamy, protein-packed smoothie bowl made with frozen bananas, peanut butter, and protein powder. Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s a filling and delicious breakfast that keeps you satisfied until lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe bananas, sliced and frozen
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter (natural, no added sugar or oil)
  • 1 scoop (about 30g) vanilla protein powder (whey or plant-based)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk (plus more as needed)
  • 34 ice cubes (optional, for extra thickness)
  • For the toppings (all optional):
  • ¼ cup granola
  • ½ banana, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter, warmed (for drizzling)
  • 1 tablespoon dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds or hemp hearts

Instructions

  1. Prep your bananas: Peel 2 very ripe bananas (with brown spots). Slice into 1-inch rounds and lay in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 2 hours or overnight. Once frozen, transfer to a freezer bag.
  2. Add liquid first: Pour ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk into your blender.
  3. Add dry ingredients: Add 1 scoop vanilla protein powder and 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter on top of the liquid.
  4. Add frozen bananas: Toss in the frozen banana slices. If using ice cubes, add them now.
  5. Blend in phases: Start blender on low speed for about 15 seconds to break up the frozen bananas. Increase to high speed. Use the tamper (if available) to push ingredients down. If no tamper, stop every 20-30 seconds, scrape down sides with a spatula, and blend again. Do not add more liquid; be patient.
  6. Check consistency: The mixture should be thick and scoopable, like soft-serve ice cream. If too thick, add 1 tablespoon of milk at a time. If too thin, add more frozen banana slices or an ice cube.
  7. Scrape and serve: Use a rubber spatula to scrape the smoothie mixture into a serving bowl.
  8. Add toppings: Arrange toppings as desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For extra thickness, swap ½ cup of frozen banana for frozen cauliflower florets (blends smooth, no flavor). To make smoothie packs, combine frozen banana slices, protein powder, and peanut butter in a freezer bag; dump into blender with milk in the morning. If using a low-speed blender, let frozen bananas sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before blending.
