A simple, no-cook holiday appetizer featuring crisp apple slices, sharp cheddar cheese, toasted nuts, and toffee bits, all drizzled with warm caramel sauce for a perfect sweet and salty crunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 46 firm apples (Gala or Honeycrisp preferred), washed and sliced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, toasted and chopped
  • 1/2 cup toffee bits
  • 1/2 cup pretzel rods or chunks, broken into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Optional: Dried cranberries, apricots, or white/dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Slice into wedges or rounds and place on paper towels to absorb excess moisture.
  2. Cut sharp cheddar cheese into 1-inch cubes and arrange in clusters on the serving board.
  3. Toast walnuts or pecans in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until fragrant. Let cool completely, then chop roughly.
  4. Warm the caramel sauce in a small saucepan over low heat or in the microwave in 15-second intervals until fluid and pourable.
  5. Arrange apple slices on the board. Drizzle the warm caramel generously over the apples and cheese in a zigzag pattern.
  6. Sprinkle toasted nuts and toffee bits over the caramel-covered areas so they adhere.
  7. Add pretzels around the edges and any optional add-ins like dried fruit or chocolate chips.
  8. Serve immediately while the caramel is warm and apples are crisp.

Notes

Ensure apples are completely dry before slicing to help caramel adhere. Toast nuts for better flavor. Assemble the board just before serving to prevent apples from browning and pretzels from getting soggy. If caramel hardens, gently reheat it. For a gluten-free option, swap pretzels for gluten-free crackers. For dairy-free, use vegan cheese and caramel.
