A show-stopping game day snack board featuring a pretzel football field with yard lines, surrounded by an assortment of meats, cheeses, and garnishes. Comes together in under 30 minutes with no cooking required.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1216 soft pretzel bites or 4 large soft pretzels
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Coarse sea salt (to taste)
  • 46 string cheese sticks (white mozzarella)
  • 1 small pretzel rod (optional, for goalpost)
  • 8 ounces salami (hard or Genoa)
  • 6 ounces pepperoni slices
  • 4 ounces prosciutto (thinly sliced)
  • 6 ounces cheddar cheese (block, cut into cubes or slices)
  • 4 ounces gouda or havarti
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese spread
  • 1/2 cup whole grain mustard
  • 1 cup red and green grapes (washed)
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes (washed)
  • 1/4 cup pickles (dill spears or cornichons)
  • 1/4 cup nuts (almonds or cashews)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pretzel field base: If using store-bought soft pretzels, warm them according to package directions (usually 2-3 minutes in the oven at 350°F). For homemade pretzels, bake them fresh and let cool slightly. Arrange the pretzels in a rectangular shape on your board, leaving about 2 inches of space around the edges. The pretzels should form a solid ‘field’ about 10×6 inches. If using pretzel bites, arrange them in rows to mimic football field lines.
  2. Create the yard lines: Take 3-4 string cheese sticks and cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide and 2 inches long. Place these strips horizontally across the pretzel field every 2 inches to simulate yard lines. For the 50-yard line, use a slightly thicker strip or two strips side by side. If you want extra detail, use a small pretzel rod cut in half to create goalposts at each end—just stick them upright into the pretzel dough or use a dab of cheese spread as glue.
  3. Arrange the charcuterie: Place small bowls for the cheese spread and mustard in the upper corners of the board (these act as ‘end zones’ visually). Fan out salami slices in a line along one long side of the board. Fold pepperoni slices in half and arrange them in overlapping rows opposite the salami. Drape prosciutto in loose ribbons near the center, creating texture and height. Cube the cheddar and slice the gouda or havarti into triangles, placing them in clusters around the board—don’t overcr…
  4. Add garnishes and fillers: Scatter red and green grapes in small clusters around the edges. Place cherry tomatoes in a small pile near the prosciutto. Tuck pickles and nuts into any empty spaces—these act as visual ‘filler’ that also taste great. If using fresh rosemary, tuck a few sprigs under the cheese clusters for a pop of green that mimics grass.
  5. Final touches: Brush the pretzel field lightly with melted butter if they look dry. Sprinkle a pinch of coarse sea salt over the buttered pretzels (skip if already salted). Arrange toothpicks or small skewers in a small cup or jar next to the board for easy grabbing. Serve immediately at room temperature—charcuterie tastes best when cheese and meats have had 15-20 minutes to come to room temperature.

Notes

Assemble the board no more than 30 minutes before serving to keep pretzels fresh. For gluten-free, use gluten-free pretzel bites or rice crackers. For dairy-free, use plant-based cheese sticks and vegan cheese spread. Leftover pretzels can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days; meats and cheese in the fridge for 3-4 days.
